Audi R8 E-Tron
While the Audi E-Tron Spyder had surfaced online as a concept with no certainty of production, the automaker is pushing one of its coveted super fast cars, the R8 into the electric motor market in 2012, with an announcement of plans to launch the Audi R8 E-Tron in two years’ time.
The new Audi R8 E-Tron is introduced as a competitor for the Mercedes SLS AMG E-Cell, and it features four asynchronous electric motors that can produce up to 308 HP and 3,319 lb-ft of torque. And quelling those who fear that R8’s performance would be compromised, this new electric supercar can speed from 0-100km/h in just 4.8 seconds.
Getting a little deeper into the powering specifics, the 1,213 lb of battery is able to store 53KWh of energy which allows the car to have a range up to 155 miles, and the battery can be recharged in a mere six to eight hours with a standard household outlet.
As with handling, Audi promises that the car weighs 3,257 lbs and comes with 70% real power basis, thus retaining the substantial handling drivers love in the R8.
The Audi R8 E-Tron is set to hit the market in late 2012, so those contemplating an electric supercar in the future can start planning ahead as of now.
